You have probably already been told not to mix professional and personal life. I’friendship and the work wouldn’t mix well. However, having friendships at work would actually be beneficial, says an article from Quartz. According to a study by l’agence de team building Wildgoose57% of employees believe that working with a friend makes the job more pleasant.
Marissa King, professor at the Yale School of Management, explain: “Friendship at work brings enormous benefits. Receiving moral support from colleagues reduces stress, limits burn-out, improves employee efficiency and commitment.
Because there are no taboos when it comes to conversing with colleagues. Still according to Quartz, 58% of people questioned would be comfortable talking about their romantic life, 53% their state of health, 33% their financial worries and 64% do not see any inconvenience in talking about their conflict with another employee. If it is necessary to take tweezers in its working relations, they remain also essential to integrate the culture of the company as well as to accomplish its role.
In another study cited by Quartz and involving 3,000 Americans, 82% of them say they work with at least one person they consider a friend. This same survey reveals that 29% say they even work with their best friend.
Sharing valves and emotional support
Research on the benefits of friendship at work reveals that it varies according to different factors. THE women, for example, would be more likely to make friends at work, which would bring many benefits to the company. On the side of youth aged under 25, 23% admit however to feeling alone in their work.
The quality and quantity of friends also depends on the type of sector in which the employees operate. In the transportation industry, for example, workers report having an average of ten friends at work. Conversely, among legal professionals, the average drops to just three friends.
The reasons for sympathizing with colleagues are numerous, and they are sometimes linked to a common distress. In a toxic work environment, some would have bonded through the trauma that they share. We call that traumatic attachment and it provides emotional support among colleagues.
The latter is fortunately not the only positive aspect of friendship at work. Sharing jokes is particularly good for morale, even at work. And, after all, your colleagues are probably the only ones who really understand your work.
