Morocco vies to replace Ukraine in the bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup – Kommersant

King Mohammed VI of Morocco has announced that his country has joined Spain and Portugal’s joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. In October 2022, Spain announced that Ukraine was included in the joint application of Madrid and Lisbon. The King of Morocco did not comment on the absence of Kyiv in the application.

Mohammed VI made statements about the 2030 World Cup bid during the African Football Confederation’s 2022 Excellence Awards, AFP reported. The Spanish Football Federation told the agency that a meeting with the federations of Portugal and Morocco will be held on March 15. Madrid also did not comment on the absence of Ukraine in the application.

Spain and Portugal have submitted a joint bid to host the championship in 2021. Ukraine joined it in October 2022. The Athletic edition reported that Kyiv could lose a place in the application, as it would probably not be able to prepare for the 2030 World Cup.

Morocco is bidding for the fifth time to host the World Cup. She previously tried to qualify for the 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010 and 2026 championships. The 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
