Well covered

On the Vanity-Fair-Oscar party not only features the bolder dresses than the awards show itself, there’s also the better gossip. Justin Bieber is said not to have taken the main entrance and posed by his wife’s side because she is having a social media dispute with his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

The following explanation would be much more plausible: Bieber simply doesn’t feel like standing around on the salver in the entrance area and looking at the camera. The really big stars don’t need the red or champagne colored flooring with lucrative designer deals. Their bodyguards know how to get in the back door and then you can just wear whatever you want. For example, a colorful crocheted blanket whose origin is not (yet) known.

Either way, the singer is »on trend«, as they say. Ceilings have recently been seen surprisingly often. Pharrell Williams was photographed with one of his new employers for his job announcement at Louis Vuitton, which he pulled over his head like he was inhaling. Shortly thereafter, blankets were seen on and off the catwalk.

At Burberry, in the wintry February weather, they lay on the seats together with hot-water bottles and were then, without being asked, taken away as a much-coveted souvenir. Blankets were also waiting in the shady areas at Etro – but many of the models also wore checked blankets wrapped around their bodies. In Paris, Saint Laurent followed suit, where blankets with large brooches were draped over jackets or simply fluttered backwards like a flag in the wind. So if not everyone here is wrapped crookedly, we will soon come across the blanket as a new fashion accessory even more frequently.

Nobody can hear home office derivations for trends anymore, in this case the only valid exception applies, because the blanket was actually an involuntarily loyal companion this winter. In the home office with reduced heating or in the cold office space, women and men have experimented with different types of diapers in recent months. Cover up, wrap up, throw on – because fabric by the meter is more versatile and practical than a cardigan, and it’s also easier to fold to leave it on the pitch. Of course, the »covering« is more unusual anyway, somehow also more heartwarming.

A blanket immediately conveys a sense of security. Babies are often wrapped in blankets shortly after birth (technical term: swaddling). When children come out of the water freezing, they are wrapped in a cloth or blanket, and soccer players are also thrown one over their heads in winter on the substitutes’ bench. And last but not least, people who are injured, have hypothermia or are in shock are first wrapped in a blanket. It is the first shelter and at least provides a few square meters of security.

Justin Bieber probably didn’t need it at the party, rather the hippie crochet blanket also serves as a warm finger in the direction of classic Oscar fashion. While Florence Pugh wore a huge stole, Bieber demonstratively wrapped herself in a colorful placemat. It doesn’t look like it’s homemade, but you’ll definitely find out in the next few days which brand the crochet model comes from. As they say in show business: stay tuned!
