The representative of the group of victims of abuse within the Investigative Police expressed deep disappointment regarding the report delivered by the PDI to the Special Investigative Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, which is in its final stage. The former PDI official Andrés Cáceres pointed out this afternoon that they are “disappointed, because it is not only done badly, but because it seeks to leave the victims in a bad light, tries to discredit them in a vulgar way, accusing the administrative faults they had, but all those administrative sanctions have an arbitrary, illegal and derisory background”. In addition, he criticized the unwillingness of the PDI High Command to provide more information.
The Commission agreed to meet again on March 22, to vote on the conclusions, compare the letters received and the pending information from the different institutions mentioned throughout the investigation.
It should be remembered that the relatives of the victims hope to be able to deliver the final report and its requirements to the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric. In addition, there is a commitment to include the background of the almost 100 cases that arrived after the commission’s work began, which could not be entered due to being out of time.
Meanwhile, today the director of the Medical Legal Service, Cristián Bahamondes, attended, who answered some pending doubts regarding errors in ballistic surveys and the impossibility of the relatives of the deceased officers to dress their relatives. In this regard, Bahamondes clarified that the reports issued by the SML are of a thanatological nature; the police are the ones that provide the rest of the information and that -as far as he understands- there would be no inconsistent results between the reports of the PDI and those of the SML. Regarding the delivery of the bodies of the victims, he stressed that since they are considered evidence, subject to possible subsequent exhumation, there is a protocol that requires the delivery of closed coffins. He regretted how painful this can be, but indicated that they must comply with the rule. Point aside, he emphasized that the SML can only carry out the expert reports required by the Public Ministry.
