Violet Ladies are defeated by Young Dolphins Marburg 59:69
After a disappointing performance, the points stayed in Marburg – participation in the play-off round is very much at risk.
In the first half, the women from Göttingen seemed to be on the right track. In the first quarter, Marburg was mostly in the front, but the deficit at the quarter break was only one point at 13:14. Without playing convincingly, the guests were able to pull away slightly in the course of the second quarter and went into the half-time break with a 33:29 lead.
What happened next raised eyebrows among coaches Ruzica Dzankic and Jonas Fischer, as well as managing director Richard Crowder. He commented: “The performance in the second half was unacceptable. After the last 2 games (narrow defeat to second-placed Chemnitz and home win against third-placed Bochum) I thought we’d finally stabilized in the second half of the season, but that was a clear relapse today. If the offensive doesn’t work, you can at least expect a high intensity on the defensive. However, there was not much to see of that today.”
A total of 6 points were achieved in the third quarter – at the end of the quarter one could be happy that the deficit was only 4 points (39:43). However, the Violet Ladies allowed a 0:12 run between the 33rd and 36th minutes – so the game was already decided.
“I was extremely upset and barely got a word out long after the game. This performance will certainly be something to talk about internally – I expect a clear reaction from the team in daily training and in the next ‘final’ next Sunday at home against Bad Homburg,” adds the managing director.
The players were: Meike Oevermann (3 points, 4 assists), Annika Oevermann (7 points, 2 assists), Crowder (22, 6 assists), Kretschmar (2, 9 rebounds), Karambatsa (3), Dohrmann (2), Tkachenko (6 ), Wenke (5), Kentzler (9)
