Apple: in a few months, a dozen leaders have left

This wave of departures concerns positions of vice-presidents, that is to say the referent people just after the boss Tim Cook.

While Apple was relatively spared by the tech crisis, the company is facing the departure of key executives. Since the second half of 2022, Apple has lost eleven senior executives, report the media Bloomberg.

This wave of departures concerns positions of vice-presidents, that is to say the referent people just after the boss Tim Cook. Their function is above all to ensure the proper daily functioning of Apple.

The departures affect various services such as design, the engineering division, industrial design, management of confidentiality issues or even subscription services.

Historically, Apple had one or two executive departures in the course of a year, so this phenomenon seems unusual. Several reasons can explain this. Most of the outgoing executives were Apple “veterans” who had worked at the company for more than 15 years. As retirement age approached and the weight of responsibilities became heavier and heavier, they preferred to leave rather than be appointed senior vice-presidents.

New strategy

Another reason is that Apple is restructuring its business and thinking long term. The brand is now focusing its strengths on mixed reality and its Reality Pro headset which should be released in June.

According Bloomberg, the company has also become increasingly bureaucratic, especially with regard to product development. Thus, the vice president of hardware engineering is responsible for overseeing certain parts of the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, but also Mac and AirPods. This operation has caused a delay in the development of new products.

Most of the managers who are no longer in place have been replaced or Apple has carried out a redistribution of responsibilities with other departments. Only the industrial design departments and the privacy officer did not find any successors at all.
