There was and is a lot going on in social media again. French star coach Patrick Mouratoglou ranked Australian Nick Kyrgios as the top tennis server of all time. Now the keys and smartphones have not stood still for a few days. And it is an illustrious group that discusses this topic.

Patrick Mouratogloue got the ball rolling again (virtually): In a video shared on social media, Mouratoglou ranked Nick Kyrgios as the number one best server of all time, with John Isner, Roddick, Ivo Karlovic and Pete Sampras making his top five completed in this order.
Unsurprisingly, there was an objection to the list of Serena Williams’ ex-coach. Winning Ugly legend Brad Gilbert shared his sentiment that Pete Sampras should be rated higher. Gilbert also finds it questionable that players like Boris Becker and Goran Ivanisevic do not even appear in the Frenchman’s list.
Andy Roddick made an appearance. He responded to Gilbert’s post by claiming his serve was no better than Sampras and Ivanisevic, as von Mouratoglou trumpets to the world. The 2003 US Open winner also praised Australian Wayne Arthurs in the big serve discipline.
Ljubicic is campaigning for his compatriot
Gilbert in turn responded with a list of the best servers from different eras, with Sampras, Becker and Ivanisevic being his top three servers from the 1980s and 90s. In the 2000s he had Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Ivo Karlovic among his top three. Federer also made it to third place behind Kyrgios and Isner at Gilbert from 2010 to 2020.
Another big name who disagreed with Mouratoglou’s list is Federer’s former coach Ivan Ljubicic. The Croatian sees his compatriot Goran Ivanisevic as a better server than any of the five players on the Frenchman’s list.
Mouratoglou responded to Ljubicic’s claim by wondering who would make room to accommodate either Ivanisevic or Federer.
