CEO Apple Tim Cook and COO Jeff Williams called for pushing the release of the Reality Pro headset this year.
In fact, the mixed reality headset was deemed unfit for release by the manufacturing team, to be precise, Apple’s industrial design team. They want the headset to be delayed until Apple releases its AR glasses called Apple Glasses.
But unfortunately the release of Apple Glasses has been postponed until 2025 or even 2026, quoted detikINET from Phone Arena, Monday (13/3/2023).
Meanwhile, another Apple team said that the headset should go to the market even though its capabilities are still limited. For example the ability to make FaceTime calls using virtual avatars, watch 3D videos, or exercise with interactive programs.
This is what puts the engineering team working on the headset under enormous pressure, because they must be able to prepare the headset so that it can be released in 2023.
This mixed reality headset has been in development since seven years ago, and is considered the most complex Apple product. The price is no joke, reportedly it will reach USD 3,000 or around IDR 45 million.
There will be at least 12 cameras installed in this headset, then two 4K micro LED screens with high resolution to display captivating images. Meanwhile the settings will use the Digital Crown (like on the Apple Watch) but in virtual form, which uses a combination of AR and VR.
Reality Pro’s brain is estimated to be the Apple M2 which is made with 5nm fabrication and has 20 billion transistors. This headset is expected to launch at the WWDC event in June 2023.
Apple is said to be spending large amounts of money to promote this mixed reality headset. They are also said to be working on a second headset at a lower price, called Reality One, whose prices range from USD 799 to USD 1,599.
