One of the people who was willing to help Meghan Markle on her way to becoming a worthy member of British royalty was Sophie Wessex. Prince Edward’s wife had the complete confidence of Elizabeth II and was the perfect person to guide the Duchess of Sussex.
However, as told in ‘Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait’, by the author and friend of royalty Gyles Brandreth, the tensions between Sophie and Meghan began when the latter “made it clear” that he didn’t need Sophie’s help and that she would trust Prince Harry instead.

This past Friday, March 10, Prince Edward and Sophie received great news. Carlos III finally fulfilled one of the late queen’s wishes and granted the title of Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to his brother and sister-in-lawthus increasing their status, since before they were counts.
Before this happened, Sophie was required to curtsy to Meghan Markle. Harry’s wife was a duchess and Sophie a countess. But now that her status has increased, Sophie no longer has to bow to Markle, which, a close friend of hers has revealed in the ‘Daily Mail’, relieves her. “Sophie is relieved. She no longer has to curtsy to someone in the family who has not only stepped down from royal duties, but has spent the last three years criticizing the institution Sophie works so hard for.” These words reveal the cold relationship that exists between the two.
During the documentary starring the Sussexes, recently broadcast on Netflix, Meghan Markle talked about curtsying in the British royal family. Before a meeting with Elizabeth II, Harry asked Meghan: “You know how to curtsy, right?” Meghan explained on camera: “I thought it was a joke.” After recreated an exaggerated bow that he allegedly performed before her husband’s grandmother, something that made Harry laugh.
This episode was heavily criticized by fans of royalty, who they considered that the Sussexes were disrespecting the queen. Bowing before the monarch is a tradition that the royal family takes very seriously and the fact that Meghan and Harry frivolized in this way after the death of the mother of Carlos III was not well seen.
