A double-edged sex tape made Paris Hilton world famous. How does she feel about it today? – The World Week

Hotel king Conrad Hilton (1887-1979) wrote his autobiography at the age of 70. His great-granddaughter Paris, 42, waited less long: her memoirs will be published on March 14th.

The British Times already printed an excerpt. It is about the most notorious chapter in Paris’ life: the release of the 62-minute sex tape “One Night in Paris”. Her ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon (born 1968) launched it in 2004 without Hilton’s consent. It was created in a room in the luxury hotel “Bellagio” near Las Vegas, when Paris Hilton was 19 years old.

Hilton on the consequences: “The career I had imagined was no longer possible (…) the absolute worst aspect of this horror show was the impact on my family.”

Hilton on the origin: «The guy was older than me, coarse, arrogant (…), a bad boy (…), the perfect guy for a girl going through the most self destructive moment in life (…), we started dating and I have to admit that it was all very exciting and daring. A new kind of adrenaline. I was 18 and obsessed. I don’t remember exactly the night he wanted to make a video while we were making love. I always said, ‘I can’t. That’s too embarrassing for me.’ He pushed me on (…), I was tipsy and tired from a long night of partying. The light wasn’t good. My hair and makeup were beyond saving (…), it was just for us. Nobody else would ever see it. And then he told me if I didn’t do it he could easily find someone who would and the worst thing I could imagine was to be left by this grown man for being a stupid kid , who didn’t know how to play adult games (…), I had to drink myself silly. Methaqualone (an intoxicant) helped. But I did. I have to admit. I knew what he wanted and I did it».

When Rick Salomon released the video four years later, Hilton called him and begged him: “Please, please don’t do this (…), he said it was too late, it was already out. He has every right to sell something that is his – something that has great financial value.”

Without a doubt, it had this: “One Night in Paris” made Paris Hilton world famous and helped her reality soap “The Simple Life”, which started at the end of 2003, shortly before the release of the explicit video material, to become a hit.

Professional poker player Salomon had to pay Hilton $400,000 in compensation and give her a share of the sex tape’s earnings.

He was later married twice to Pamela Anderson.
