The Academy Awards were presented for the 95th time in Los Angeles last night. With seven and four Oscars, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and the German anti-war film “Nothing New in the West” were the top performers.
The Oscars are back – with a show stronger than it has been in many years!
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, this year’s Oscars were not dominated by a slap, but by deserved winners!
A completely insane multiverse madness has won seven Oscars including best picture of the year – plus four Oscars for a German anti-war film! Not typical Oscar fare, but exciting (different) films, led by Everything Everywhere All At Once (seven Oscars) and Nothing New on the West (four Oscars).
In what was probably the most competitive category of the evening, there was an Oscar for comeback story of the year: Brendan Fraser, long forgotten after his The Mummy fame, won Best Actor for The Whale – ahead of co-favorite Austin Butler (“Elvis”) and Colin Farrell (“The Banshees Of Inisherin”).
His thanksgiving, which not only brought tears to his eyes, was one of a long list of strong speeches by the winners – hardly any cringe, a lot of heart and contagious joy!
So the Oscars, which have almost been written off in the meantime, still have a chance…
