FCL fights for three points in Geneva

FC Luzern wins an exciting game with three sending-offs against Servette, who is still undefeated at home, 1-0 thanks to penalty scorer Max Meyer.

The FCL was the more active team in the starting minutes and immediately took over the dictation of the game. In the fifth minute, Dorn suddenly appeared alone in front of the opposing goal. However, this action was preceded by an offside position. After a quarter of an hour, the Grenats slowly but surely came into play better.

After half an hour, FCL was lucky not to fall behind. After a cross, it was Stefanovic who came up with a header, but only put it on the crossbar. Only five pointer turns later, the post had to save again for the FCL. This time the header came from Vouilloz.

In a phase in which the home team now had more shares of the game, there was also a crash on the other side at the goal border. After a strong action, Pius Dorn passed to Sorgic, who only hit the post from an acute angle. Despite three aluminum goals, it was goalless in the cabin.

Only three minutes were played in the second half when the Lucerne team had a dangerous 2v1 situation. Beloko shot himself, but the ball went wide of the goal. Then the VAR intervened because Mbabu illegally obstructed Beloko. Meyer safely converted the subsequent penalty into the lead.

Servette tried to respond immediately, completing Pluck. Then ten minutes later they had a dangerous double chance with Kutesa and the active pick. With a quarter of an hour remaining, substitute Klidjé had the opportunity to make it 0-2 from close range after some great work from Dräger. However, his attempt ended up in the outside netting.

There was excitement in the 77th minute when Mbabu saw a second yellow card. Despite being outnumbered, Servette remained dangerous and continued to take action. Things got heated again in the 88th minute and another Geneva player was sent off. This time it was Crivelli who received a straight red for a headbutt.

In stoppage time, Toggenburger missed a promising opportunity to decide. In the very last few minutes it was even 9 against 10 because Dräger also saw his second yellow card after a foul play. However, this no longer had any influence on the result.

An intense and hard-fought game ended with an away win for the FCL. The next away game is coming up next Saturday when we play Grasshopper Club Zurich.

FCL coach Mario Frick said after the game to the “Luzerner Zeitung”: “I’m very happy after this game. We got into this game brilliantly. The fans saw a very attractive game with two teams at eye level who exchanged blows openly.” And further: “We deservedly took the lead, but then lost the thread. We should be able to dominate the game eleven against ten, but we lost control. In the end we were lucky, Servette deserved the point.”
