Two American astronomers were able to detect three small rocky planets at once, orbiting the star TOI-700, 100 light-years away. By cosmic standards, this is a small distance. These planets are named TOI-700 e, TOI-700 c, and TOI-700 d. At the same time, scientists believe that they may also be able to detect a fourth planet in this system.
TOI-700 e and TOI-700 are planets that are in the habitable zone of a star and are very similar to Earth. Scientists believe that there may be liquid water and life can exist. As for the third planet, theoretically it can also be the same as the Earth, but scientists know much less about it.
However, the rocky planet TOI-700 e, which is 95% the size of the Earth, and it wraps around between TOI-700 and TOI-700 d, has attracted particular attention of scientists. That is, this exoplanet is as close as possible to defining it as a “second Earth”.
Previously, scientists found that around the sun there are 59 planets, potentially suitable for human life.
