Nij Smellinghe Hospital in Drachten is one of three screening locations in the Netherlands participating in a pilot population study to detect lung cancer at an early stage. Residents of the Drachten region between the ages of 60 and 79 will receive an invitation to participate these weeks. People have to fill out a questionnaire so that the hospital can assess whether someone is a candidate for a CT scan. These are people who have smoked for a long time in their lives or have smoked for a long time in the past.
