Second meeting of “Montpellier changes with you” initiated by the City this Friday and this Saturday around the Domaine d’O and Malbosc. Michaël Delafosse answered many questions on town planning, the environment and safety.
The questioning, without filter, of the mayor by the inhabitants remains an exercise rich in lessons. The second meeting of the “Montpellier changes with you” cycle initiated by the City and organized this Friday and Saturday in the Hospitals-Faculties district was no exception to this democratic rule.
After his presentation of general policy (urban planning, mobility, security, cleanliness, education, etc.), Michaël Delafosse specified projects related to the district. “We will soon launch a peaceful neighborhood consultation around the plan of the Four Lords by questioning the place Jean-Baumel.”
Laying of the first rails in May
On the construction site of line 5, the city councilor announces “the laying of the first rails, route de Mende, in May.” Then wishes “the first technical tests on the line in May 2025. ” Another challenge: the space of the Lunaret zoo, the Bois de Montmaur and the Lavalette park. “We are obviously going to keep the zoo, which represents a budget of €7 million, taking animal welfare into account. Chao panda and bears! We will have biodiversity from the Mediterranean and Africa.”
As for the Amazonian greenhouse, the city councilor announces “€15 million to bring it up to standard after original poor workmanship. Not to mention the million euros in annual operation. Today we don’t have the means.”
“Develop for respectful uses”
Asked about town planning, Michaël Delafosse evokes “the balance to be maintained between the conversation of natural spaces such as the ZAC du Coteau and the project of the agroecological park of Bouisses. On Montmaur and Lunaret, we are going to develop for uses that respect the environment along line 5.”
The “worrying” security situation in Montasinos
On the Aiguelongue side, the security situation linked to drug trafficking in Montasinos “is becoming worrying” by Michaël Delafosse’s own admission. “The police challenge the drivers but the problem is those who organize. This is where the judicial investigation must be able to move forward. It does, but it is difficult. And then I will to say something that is very politically incorrect. If there are people who could stop going to buy their stuff, that would help us. Because those who consume recreationally, who use cocaine for fun in the beautiful districts of Montpellier and let people experience insecurity where it’s hard… It’s not acceptable! I’m very cash on this! We have this problem in Montasinos as in Rosa-Parks Square.”
The future of the Rosa-Lee Parks House for All, inaugurated in 2009 in Malbosc, flooded in 2014 and partially reopened since made clear to the mayor “the litigation in progress before the courts to make pay those who did their job badly at the start. We have the same subject on the slippery cobblestones in front of the Arc de Triomphe.”
