KEY :

  • NASA is tracking a new asteroid called 2023 DW (2023 DW) that has a “very low chance” of hitting Earth in 2046.
  • Asteroid 2023DW was first discovered on Feb. 27, 2023, and is probably about 50 meters in diameter.
  • NASA has developed various techniques to protect the Earth from future asteroids.

NASA is tracking a new asteroid named 2023 DW (2023 DW), which has a “very low chance” of hitting Earth in 2046 and will continue to release new data.

According to NASA’s Planetary Defense Cooperation Agency (PDCO), it takes weeks to collect data to reduce uncertainty and predict the future orbits of the first newly discovered planets.

The asteroid 2023 DW was first discovered on February 27, 2023 and is probably about 50 meters in diameter.

NASA has developed techniques to protect Earth from future asteroids, such as the Asteroid Trajectory Shift Test (DART) mission that altered the orbit of the asteroid Dimorphos on Sept. 26. 2022
