Liverpool coach, Jürgen Klopp, commented on the penalty kick that Egyptian international Mohamed Salah missed, in the “Reds” and Bournemouth match, which ended with the second team winning 1-0.
Philip Billing scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute, to get Bournemouth out of the relegation zone, after jumping to 16th place with 24 points, two points behind Leeds United, who are in 18th place.
Liverpool suffered a setback at the end of the season in the Golden Square, as its score froze at 42 points from 26 games and ranks fifth, three points behind Tottenham Hotspur, fourth in the ranking, who played the same number.
Klopp refused to blame the loss on the wasted penalty kick by Salah, saying, “If we scored (the kick), we would not have performed better, but the result might have changed. Salah scores a lot of goals, but he missed the penalty kick, and this is life.”
He added, “What can I say? It was not quite our match. We dominated the first half, but most of the time we passed the ball at the wrong time against a team that plays close lines.”
Liverpool’s loss comes less than one week after a record 7-0 win over rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.
Liverpool will host Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 next Wednesday, and will try to compensate for its 5-2 loss in the first leg at Anfield last month.
