TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud Md disclosed the initial Rp. 37 billion in a deposit box belonging to a former Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance Raphael Alún Trisambodo revealed.
Mahfud Md said that the IDR 37 billion finding was revealed when Rafael came to the bank to open his deposit box. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), suspicious of Rafael’s behavior, immediately blocked the deposit box.
“Several days he went back and forth to the deposit box. Then one morning he came to the bank to open it, immediately blocked by PPATK,” said Mahfud during a press conference at the Ministry of Finance office with Sri Mulyani, Saturday, March 11, 2023.
After it was blocked, PPATK coordinated with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to find a legal basis for opening it. After that, it was revealed that Rp. 37 billion in US dollars was stored in the deposit. Mahfud said this was a practice of money laundering and indeed started with suspicion. This suspicion must be developed again to become a legal construction.
“Such as money laundering, for example. Financial intelligence found that way and it is not legal evidence, it must be constructed into law, how and where, it can be traced and there is already knowledge,” said Mahfud.

Head PPATK Ivan Yustiavandana said that the confiscation process was carried out accompanied by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Ivan said that in the process of securing Rafael Alun’s safe deposit box, PPATK investigators were accompanied by KPK employees.
In addition, Ivan said the safe deposit box Raphael Alún in one of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) banks, it is now PPATK. Furthermore, he said, PPATK will carry out development regarding the contents of the safe deposit box.
