A family residing in the State of Arizona (United States) was recently surprised to discover a lynx lounging in the bed of their dog Squeakers, a 10-year-old Chihuahua cross Dachshund who narrowly survived the encounter with the wild cat.
The image is disconcerting. Nikola Zovko, who lives near Tucson in Arizona (United States), is nevertheless familiar with the wildlife of the American West.
The American has already seen, near his property, raccoons, badgers, pumas. But, on March 6, he probably didn’t expect to see a lynx in his dog’s bed.
The man thus first thought that the creature curled up in the heated bed of his faithful companion Squeakers was one of his cats, before realizing that it was indeed a lynx, as reported in particular the british newspaper The Guardian.
Squeakers is seriously injured in the leg
Nikola Zovko immediately contacted the federal agency in charge of the protection and preservation of wildlife, which advised him to keep his distance.
The agency also highlighted this story on its Twitter account on Tuesday, to remind locals not to handle trapped or injured wild animals when they enter homes.
When officers arrived on the scene, the lynx had already left, but the dog was nowhere to be found. The latter was finally found the next day, in bad shape, seriously injured in the leg after fighting with the lynx. Given his age and the extent of his injuries, Squeakers is watched closely by his family, to ensure that none of his cuts become infected.
“Every time I tried to open the door, the bobcat would look at me and start growling,” Nikola Zovko said. “I’m just glad it’s over.”
