After the “Junk Mountain” in Jdeideh… Prostitution in Baouchriye!

“Lebanese Debate”

To whom was the decision to create a new landfill since 2014 and who legalized it locally?

A question that the people of the region disbelieved in for more than 9 years, after they saw their region turn into skyscrapers of waste piling up and expanding, and the municipality in the person of its president and those close to him organize this environmental and health prosperity by decisions of the Municipal Council. On it, or as Jabara repeatedly stated, justifying his coverage of the ill-fated landfill.

In a radio interview on July 25, 2019, Jubara clarified that “Lebanon is not the only country in the world that throws its waste into the sea, but Lebanon’s problem is that it is a small country and there are no vast areas in it,” or as he promised in a radio interview on August 29, 2016, i.e. For more than 9 years, “we have been preparing a project for our region in order to temporarily address the waste crisis there.”

He explained at the time that “we will take a piece of land in the Industrial Valley and transfer our waste to put it in this land, and I will also establish a sorting plant, and this is a temporary solution to remove waste from the streets of Jdeideh so as not to put pressure on people, stressing that” this project is for our region and not for all regions. .

However, the only “development” project that continued was the garbage landfill and its devastating health and environmental repercussions, which were expanded repeatedly by agreement between the Mayor of Al-Jadida, Antoine Gebara, the Council for Reconstruction and the Contracting Company, to which a project of another kind was added.

In the recent period, among the homes, hospitals, and shops in the area, a new “disgusting” scene has entered, which is the phenomenon of prostitution and drug trafficking in more than one street, especially in the vicinity of Dora Roundabout and the street surrounding St. Joseph Hospital.

There, prostitutes of different nationalities go out to hunt customers, and after the disgusting spectacle was limited to the night hours, passers-by noticed that it began to expand to the daytime hours, amid complete absence, for the municipality of Jdeideh Bouchrieh Al-Sad in combating this scourge that moved almost a year ago after the station of MTV aired a report on this scandal, but the situation returned to the way it was on the second day and continues to this day.

The people and residents of the region wonder about the reasons for the indifference of the municipality and its president to deal with this danger?

There is information that the reasons for a number of municipality members submitting their resignation came as an objection to this reality and other practices taking place in the municipality of Jdeideh Al-Baushrieh Al-Sad, which the region and its people are no longer able to bear.
