Warner recently surprised everyone by announcing that they are making new “Lord of the Rings” films. Andy Serkis loves it. The Gollum actor wants to be back – on one condition.
Im Post-Credit Podcast Andy Serkis reveals how fondly he thinks back to the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy: “Middle-earth never let go of me,” he says. He also shows enthusiasm for the recently announced new films: “I think there are so many other potential Middle-earth projects that could come up.”
Serkis also states that he would “naturally jump at the chance” to be a part of it if one condition is met: Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens must also be involved again. The trio produced the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, with Jackson also directing the films.

Serkis’ wish isn’t all that unlikely. In the announcement of the new films, it was revealed that Warner is speaking with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The plan makes it obvious that the trio is involved in some way. Finally, Jackson states, “We look forward to having further discussions with them to hear their vision for the future of the franchise.”
So there is currently a lot to suggest that the new films are also set in the same world as Jackson’s previous parts and not remakes, but prequels, sequels or spin-offs. But that’s not confirmed yet.
And there would definitely be a place for Serkis too – even if his iconic character Gollum doesn’t return. After all, as a motion capture specialist, he could also embody another fantasy creature. And Serkis is also in great demand as a “regular” actor, most recently he shone in the “Star Wars” series “Andor” and can be seen on Netflix as of today in “Luther: The Fallen Sun” as a cunning villain.

Serkis could also play a role behind the camera. He already played an important role as director of the second unit in the “The Hobbit” trilogy. In a film production, the second unit usually shoots additional scenes such as landscape shots, stunt scenes or large mass scenes with lots of extras parallel to the so-called first unit, which works with the stars. In addition, Serkis has used the experience to direct himself as the main director – most recently the Marvel film “Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage”.
However, no schedule for the new “Lord of the Rings” films has been released yet. First of all, fans can eagerly await what kind of films are to come.
