The successor to the Lamborghini Aventador will be a plug-in hybrid with 1,000 horsepower

The Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has announced the successor to the Aventador model – the future car does not have a name yet, only the factory code LB744, but it is known that it will be a plug-in hybrid that will develop around 1000 horsepower.

Unlike other manufacturers, Lamborghini will not abandon its V12 engine and it will be used in the new model, where it will be supplemented by three electric motors. The 6.5-liter V12 engine has been made lighter – the engine weighs 218 kilograms, which is 17 kilograms less than the engine used in the Aventador. The manufacturer has paid special attention to the sound, moreover, it is the V12 engine that will provide most of the power – it will develop 814 horsepower. Two of the electric motors are placed on the front axle, and one on the rear axle. Each of them weighs 18.5 kilograms, so the manufacturer believes that the weight they create will have a minimal effect on the machine’s performance and the benefits outweigh the losses.

The main benefit of electric motors is instant torque – 350Nm instant torque available. The exact acceleration figures are unknown, but it is estimated that this car could accelerate similarly to the very rare Lamborghini Veneno model – that car ran up to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

These electric motors will be powered by 3.8kWh batteries located in the gearbox tunnel. The manufacturer thus tries to maintain the best possible balance of the car. The batteries can be charged with a power of 7kW or they can be charged with brake energy recovery and an internal combustion engine. According to Lamborghini, such batteries will be charged in 6 minutes. Technically, the car can only be driven in electric mode, using the two electric motors placed in front, however, the distance covered in electric mode will be tiny – just a few kilometers.

Since the batteries are located in the gearbox tunnel and take up space, a new, more compact gearbox was created for this car. The car will be equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which is 56 centimeters long and 75 centimeters wide. More details are promised in the coming weeks, but Lamborghini representatives stress that this is an all-new car built from scratch.
