Kimi Räikkönen is a racer at heart and soul. Although he is already well into his forties, it does not seem that he intends to put an end to motorsport for good, on the contrary. He will most recently appear in the NASCAR Cup Series in the colors of the Trackhouse Racing Project 91 team with a Chevrolet Camaro, at the Circuit of the Americas, which he knows very well.
Räikkönen already has quite a lot of experience with the NASCAR series. He tried the American series in 2011, as well as last year (at Watkins Glen). He intends to continue gathering experience in this competition, this year he will perform on the COTA circuit, respectively. Circuit of the Americas, where he recorded his last victory in Formula 1 in the 2018 season in F1.
The Finn is already fully looking forward to the new challenge.
“I had a great time in NASCAR,” “Iceman” stated. “I learned a lot in a very short time, everyone was very helpful to me, the competition was a great challenge.”
“This time I will be racing on a track that I know very well, so I won’t have to learn as much. I want to get rid of it, but I also want to do the best job possible.”
Unlike Watkins Glen, where Räikkönen raced last year, the Circuit of the Americas is much more familiar to him. After all, he has completed eight Grands Prix in Austin and, as we already mentioned, he even managed to win once there.
Trackhouse Racing Project 91 co-owner Justin Marks is perhaps the happiest about the Finn’s involvement. He makes no secret of the fact that, following the example of Räikkönen, he would like to bring a number of other famous names to the competition.
“When we announced Kimi last year, I thought he was the global superstar we were trying to be the moment we created Project 91. I think you saw how popular he is with fans around the world and his performance in the car was proof of concept.”
“Kimi is very popular, it’s great for NASCAR, and so is Trackhouse, and I think Kimi really enjoys racing here.”
After Marks, the “Iceman” himself took the floor again.
“I’m sure there are a lot of drivers who would like to try Nascar,” the winner of 21 grand prizes was announced. “However, it is not very easy at the moment, maybe in the future the doors will open more, Europeans will get more opportunities and we will try to get more Europeans into this sport.” he added Räikkönen.
