Oscar Rejects Request from President of Ukraine to Appear

Jakarta

Since the conflict with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has always tried to appear at various international award events including the Oscars. But unfortunately he again received rejection from The Academy, the organizer of the event.

According to Variety, Hollywood’s top agent, Mike Simpson, is trying to apply for the former comedian-turned-president to be given time to make a speech as he did at the Berlin Film Festival last month.

Zelensky felt that the support of the American people for his country was starting to wane, so he had to rally support again. Unfortunately the request was rejected by The Academy and they did not give a statement on this matter.

Whereas in the previous year, Zelensky also received a rejection from Oscar when he asked for the same thing. Officials felt that the event should remain apolitical in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

ABC, which broadcast the event and is said to be supporting Ukrainian President Zelensky, did not make a statement. According to The Post, ABC did not respond to requests for comment.

Meanwhile Hollywood actor, Sean Penn, actually gave one of his Oscar trophies to the president when visiting Kyiv, Ukraine. The presence of the actor there is a form of support that there are still many parties who support his country.

Penn was also honored by having his name engraved on the stone of the Walk of the Brave, alongside the names of the brave people who have been with Ukraine since its inception, which includes other world leaders.

“American film actor and director Sean Penn @seanpenn is coming to Ukraine for the third time during full scale war,” Zelensky wrote on Instagram.

Oscar 2023 will be held on Monday, March 13 2023, at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles and broadcast live on ABC hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
