The Sofia City Court (SGC) took a measure of remand “in custody” against the former border guard Valentin Hristov, who is one of the six defendants for the tragedy near the village of Lokorsko, where 17 migrants were found in a truck, dead of suffocation.
Hristov is guilty of participating in an organized criminal group – a structured permanent association of more than three persons, formed with the aim of carry out coordinated in the country trafficking of migrants, for which a prison sentence of more than three years is provided.
The accused was detained on February 19 in Greece on the basis of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the SGP.

On March 8, he was extradited to our country.
The court found the prosecutor’s request to be well-founded and accepted that there is sufficient evidence that leads to a conclusion of a reasonable assumption about the authorship of the crime for which the accused is charged. The court also found that there was a real danger of committing another crime, which is why it determined that the most severe measure of remand was appropriate.
