Rosario: José Luis Espert does not miss an opportunity to insist on the state of siege | A militant of the suspension of the right state

Through a draft declaration presented in the Chamber of Deputies, the legislator for Avanza Libertad, José Luis Espert, requested the Government to declare a “State of siege” in the city of Rosario and Villa Constitución. This is how he got on the proposals that, by right, seek to keep a portion of the media agenda around the violence that drug trafficking is generating in the streets of Rosario.

“The Constitution has not been made only to give freedom to the people, it has also been made to give them security,” the neoliberal economist maintains in the project that he presented in the Lower House. In just one paragraph, Espert expresses its recommendation for the Government to apply articles 23 and subparagraph 29 of article 75 of the National Constitution, which enable it to declare a “State of siege” in “one or several points of the Nation in case of internal commotion”.

This is not the first time that Espert has proposed, from Congress, a solution through the declaration of a “State of Siege”. In October of last year, accompanied by deputies from Together for Change such as Gerardo Milman, Luciano Laspina and Ricardo López Murphy, he requested that the state of emergency be applied in Villa Mascardi, where the Lafken Winkul Mapu Mapuche community was holding a territorial recovery, which the Government evicted with a joint operation of federal forces and arrests.

Regarding the situation in Rosario, Espert maintained that “the escalation of violence and the ignorance of the rules on the part of various violent groups related to drug trafficking, denotes that such a situation affects the constitutional order,” therefore that it considered valid to advance in a suspension of the rule of law as a solution to combat drug trafficking.

Unlike the requests of Patricia Bullrich and Horacio Rodriguez Larreta to increase federal forces and request the intervention of the Army, Espero considered that the situation warrants a state of emergency for the entire population due to “the alarming number of homicides in the city, as merchants are threatened, the media intimidated and also as the inhabitants of some of the neighborhoods of the city of Rosario have chosen to take justice into their own hands in the face of the inefficiency of the Provincial State”.
