The participants of the March 11 run will run across the new Jonava bridge

On the festive day of March 11 – the day of the restoration of Lithuania’s Independence – the traditional “Obelisk for A. Kulviečius – Jonava” run will take place in Jonava, already the 34th.

At the same time, it will be the third stage of the Lithuanian Running Cup (LBT), and the route of the runners will pass through the new Jonava pedestrian bridge for the first time.

“With this traditional run, we commemorate March 11, which is important for Lithuania. It has been taking place for many years and has become a beautiful tradition in the city of Jonava. When I was still an active runner myself, I knew this run and saw that it was very popular with many runners. Everyone likes the track so much that the competition is included in the LBT calendar and allows to attract even more professional athletes”, said Jūratė Stanislovaitienė, director of the Jonava Sports Center (JSC).

She also admitted that for many runners this event marks the beginning of a new running season. It is like a prelude to future launches in the future. In addition to the usual 15 km distance, you can also choose a shorter 2 km distance, which is especially popular among young people.

“Running in Jonava is known to everyone, so many professionals and amateurs gather here. All of them contribute to promoting the city of Jonava. The event will reward the winners of various age groups, as well as the youngest and oldest participants. The 2 km run, in which many children participate, is especially fun,” said J. Stanislovaitienė.

The 15 km running course remains traditional, but the finish will be slightly adjusted. According to J. Stanislovaitienė, this was done in order to stop less traffic in the city. Participants will run from Kosmonauti Street across the new Jonava pedestrian bridge.

“As for the technical details, the road will be repaired in places, but it will not affect the runners,” emphasized J. Stanislovaitienė.

Traditionally, the participants of the 15 km run will be taken by bus from the Jonava sports arena to the starting point, and one bus will take their belongings back to the site near the arena.

After the run, participants will be served pilaf and hot tea. All participants will also be awarded commemorative medals. Prize winners of the main competitions will also distribute cash prizes.

The run “Obelisk for A. Kulviečius – Jonava” will start at 12 noon on March 11. The participants of the main run will have to cover a distance of 15 km from the obelisk in Kulva district to Jonava city center. A little earlier – 10.45 am. next to the municipality of Jonava district, a start will be given to younger or less experienced runners who will compete in an exciting 2 km run.
