Photo ID for children recognized only in EU – GOOD MORNING SLOVAKIA

Parents can request an ID card with a facial image for children under the age of 15. But the document has limited validity and is only recognized within the EU and in countries that accept it as a travel document. The Slovakian police reminds us of this, emphasizing that a passport is always necessary for travel outside the European Union.

Children under the age of five have not been registered in their parents’ passports since 2012, and the Slovak authorities, like those of other EU member states, are obliged to issue passports only as an individual travel document. Therefore every minor must have his own passport regardless of age.

For children under 15, the request must be presented by the child’s legal representative. Children under the age of six are issued a passport valid for two years.
