The president of the Dominican Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SDOG), César López, joined the Public Health call for parents and guardians to go to vaccination centers to apply the inoculation to girls between the ages of 9 and 14 years against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), the main cause of cervical cancer, the second highest incidence in the female population.
The gynecologist said that after the girl received the first dose, a second one was applied six months later. If she is over 15 years old, she requires three doses every six months.
Avoid uterine cancer
“Most of the countries in the world that have been able to eradicate cervical cancer have done so through timely vaccination. In the country and worldwide this vaccine costs money, privately in the Dominican Republic it also represents a cost, the Ministry applies it free of charge, so low-income girls can be protected, “said López.
He added that the objective of the immune system is to raise the defenses to prevent this disease, which is the second cause of death in the Dominican Republic.
While the director of Immunopreventibles by Vaccines, Aida Lucía Vargas, maintained that in January of this year 7,215 girls were vaccinated against HPV with the first dose, of which 2,890 completed their schemes.
He also urged fathers, mothers and guardians to take their girls to the vaccination posts, since the vaccine is available.
He indicated that with the application of this immunological, antibodies are acquired, with better results if it is applied in girls between 9 and 14 years of age, which require two doses with an interval of six months.
