Meta Quest Pro test. High-end VR glasses can do without a computer, but they are much better with one

Pros

  • Design a ergonomie
  • Quality image and experience
  • Great software and application support

Minuses

  • Cena
  • Low battery life
  • The new functions are incomplete

Last October, Meta (formerly Facebook) introduced a new generation of virtual reality glasses – Quest Prowhich is intended for a completely different segment than the previous Quest 2. While Quest 2 was aimed at the lowest possible price level, Quest Pro goes in the opposite direction – to offer more advanced hardware in all aspects at a much higher price.

While the starting price was then 1,500 dollars, with the arrival of the rival HTC Vive XR Elite with a similar hi-end focus, the price was adjusted to 999 dollars, i.e. by a third, so that the glasses could compete with the model from HTC.

We have already tested the HTC Vive XR Elite on Živa.cz and this time we also received the company’s Meta Quest Pro for testing Adrop.czfrom which it is possible to borrow them for a fee.

Mobile VR with top technologies

Like the low-cost Quest 2, the Quest Pro is built around a mobile chipset, so it runs standalone on its own battery, but can be wired or wirelessly connected to a computer for a full desktop experience. The Meta used a modern Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ chipset with 12 GB of RAM, which has double the performance of the Quest 2.

Meta also redesigned the design, which is much more comfortable because the weight is better distributed to the rear. We had the Quest 2 for quite some time, but it transfers most of the weight to the front of the head, including the nose. The tightening of the Quest Pro is set comfortably and, above all, quickly, which is the complete opposite of the Quest 2.

The Quest Pro feels lighter in this regard, although it is actually heavier. The design looks much better from the outside, but also from the inside, everything is ideally soft and comfortable. You will immediately notice the very interesting design of the entire structure in the packaging, which is relatively simple.

Also new are the Touch Pro controllers, which no longer have circular profiles or batteries (the integrated battery inside is charged). Like the glasses, the controllers have new cameras, which in the case of the glasses are in color and with high resolution.
