The East Kalimantan Provincial Health Office has issued an appeal to the public to be aware of the spread of bird flu or the H5N1 virus, which has spread in a number of regions in Indonesia, one of which was detected in South Kalimantan Province.
Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the East Kalimantan Provincial Health Office, Setyo Budi Basuki, said that currently there are no reports of East Kalimantan residents being infected with the virus, but vigilance needs to be exercised considering that East Kalimantan is directly adjacent to South Kalimantan.
“In 2023 there have been no reports of the spread of the virus occurring in poultry in the East Kalimantan region,” said Setyo Budi Basuki in Samarinda, Wednesday.
As is known, the bird flu virus with the new clade 2.3.4.4b has been detected in South Kalimantan.
For this reason, the community is advised to always maintain the cleanliness of the environment and avoid contact with risk factors, namely poultry that are positive for bird flu.
Basuki said that most of this zoonotic disease was indeed transmitted by poultry, therefore his party reminded the Regency and City Health Offices as well as Puskeswan to be vigilant if there is a sudden death of poultry in their area.
Because the clinical course of this virus is relatively fast, it is almost the same as COVID-19 which is caused by a virus and the most vulnerable are people who work directly with the livestock world.
Therefore, the most important thing is personal hygiene for poultry and how animal health is by carrying out periodic vaccinations.
“We are also required to consume products from poultry in cooked packages, not half cooked,” he said.
Basuki appealed to the public to maintain their health, live a clean and healthy lifestyle and not consume undercooked food.
