Daughter of Harry and Meghan baptized and from now on ‘princess’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had their daughter Lilibet Diana baptized last Friday. Striking, the girl is called princess for the first time.

Party at Harry and Meghan’s house. Daughter Lilibet Diana, now about 21 months old, was baptized last Friday in the United States, where the couple lives. The British royals were invited to the christening, but sent their cat.

But especially the statement announcing the baptism receives a lot of attention. After all, it mentions ‘Princess Lilibet Diana’ for the first time. A title she has been entitled to according to the rules since her grandfather Charles went through life as king.

However, on the Buckingham Palace website with an overview of heirs to the throne, Lilibet is still referred to as ‘Miss’, and big brother Archie as ‘Master’. In a response to the BBC, it sounds that the website will be ‘updated in due course’.

As a reminder, father Harry and mother Meghan turned their backs on the royal family in 2020 and handed over their royal titles, the so-called HRH titles – His and Her Royal Highness. They were allowed to retain the title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Harry and Meghan previously left open whether they would use the titles for their children. Princess Anne and Prince Edward, sister and brother of King Charles, refused those titles for their children at the time. According to the British press, Harry and Meghan want to let their children decide for themselves whether they will take their royal title or not. In the meantime, the couple would only drop the titles of prince and princess on ‘formal matters’.
