Mum Ines Mendes (21) is devastated by the reaction of strangers when they see her son Gabriel Quintinhas (3).
– It is heartbreaking to see how people react. People stare and comment, she tells the news agency Kennedy News and Media.
– I think it’s contagious
The mother of two, who lives in Peterborough in the UK, says that strangers look at her son with disgust.

– People who don’t know us have said it’s contagious. Then I say it’s ridiculous, because it’s not contagious at all. It’s a skin condition and it’s not his fault, she says.
Little Gabriel has a serious case of eczema. Eczema is according to Major medical encyclopedias a collective term for inflammation in the upper part of the skin. It can also be called dermatitis.
– Eczema is characterized by itchy, red, dry and flaky skin. The most important treatment is to avoid the cause, if there is a clear causative factor, the encyclopedia writes.
Don’t know the reason
The three-year-old is so badly affected that he looks like he has been burned.
The boy has struggled with the condition since he was just one month old.
Mora noticed that her son had a rash, and took him to a specialist. He didn’t have an answer, but surmises that the condition is genetic.
– It looked red and pink, and he had a rash. It got really bad when Gabriel was about five months old. It looked like he had been injured, he was full of cuts. He was in great pain.
– Crying in pain
Since he was two months old, Gabriel has been followed up by a doctor.
– It itches and is very painful. He looks like he’s been burned. He is always crying in pain, and is very sorry for the way he looks.
– The summer body in two days
Because the boy’s skin is so red and sore, mum Ines has decided not to send him to kindergarten.
– I am afraid that he will be bullied. He hasn’t really been around other kids that much, apart from his closest friends.
The mother of two has tried a number of creams to relieve the symptoms. Now she is desperate to find a treatment.
– We have tried creams. Nothing works. We have tried everything we can, she says.
– Do everything I can
In desperation, she has started one fundraising campaign to pay for treatment and anything else that Gabriel might need.
She says her son cries in pain every single day, and she dreads the day she has to send him to school – fearing he will be bullied.

– He can talk, so now we understand how bad it is. He says he is in pain and asks us to scratch him. He also cries a lot, she says.
It is tough for the mother of two to watch:
– It is difficult when he gets upset. I try to do everything I can to help him. Sometimes I see that he wants to cry, but holds it in. It won’t be easy to send him to school, but I have to.
