Drinking coffee is a daily habit for many people. Some even say they can’t start the day without it. But can you actually become dependent on caffeine? We’ll tell you if coffee is really addictive or if it’s just a myth.

Starting the day with a cup of coffee is a real one for many people must. That’s because the caffeine in coffee makes us more alert. And as soon as that feeling has disappeared, we crave a cup of coffee again. For many, it is no longer even about the taste of the coffee, but about the caffeine. Because without coffee we feel very restless at work or school. And by always giving in to these cravings you will soon be on 5 cups of coffee a day. But is coffee really that addictive? Or is it just a myth?
Is coffee really addictive?
Tom Bart, an addiction prevention expert, told Quest that coffee is not addictive. It meets too few criteria for a real addiction. You will not get physical, social or financial problems if you consume too much caffeine every day, which can happen with other extreme addictions.

Withdrawal symptoms
So there is no coffee addiction, but you can get withdrawal symptoms if you don’t drink coffee for a longer period of time. That’s mainly because your body is asking for the caffeine. It can cause complaints such as headache, trembling, sweating and fatigue. Fortunately, it is not about severe withdrawal symptoms and it will all feel very innocent.
The biggest problem is often that people feel more irritable without the caffeine, but for the most part it’s all in your head. You think you can’t do without the caffeine at all, when that’s not the case at all. So we can just keep drinking coffee without worries. Nowadays there are of course also a lot of tasty coffee types, such as decaffeine. Maybe that’s worth a try ;-).
