Online Durian and Wagyu Fraud Lost Customers of Up to IDR 228 Million

Online food promotion is always tempting. As a result of being attracted to wagyu and durian being sold online, hundreds of these people became victims fraud IDR 228 million.

Promotion of premium food which is usually sold at exorbitant prices never fails to tempt consumers. High-priced food is given a big enough discount to make many people interested in buying it.

Usually this promotion is carried out online both on websites and advertisements that appear on social media. But when tempted by online offers, you have to make sure first if the goods and sellers are really honest.

Hundreds of consumers who were tempted by durian and wagyu online ended up reporting incidents of fraud to the authorities. Unmitigated, the value of the loss reached hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Quoting Stomp (7/8) in February, Singaporeans were shocked by a massive online promotion of food. These foods are seasonal foods that cannot be obtained throughout the year.

For a full month the promotion always appears in various advertisements that can be accessed by the public. However, this food promotion ended up being reported to the local police due to hundreds of consumers who felt they were victims fraud.

Throughout February to early March there were 168 reports from people ordering food online. Most of them ordered food such as Musang King durian, wagyu beef, oysters to giant King Crab.

After ordering a lot of food with a large total, these customers reported they did not get their order. After a month passed no package arrived at their house for the food ordered.

A consumer named Atiksh Singh showed screenshots of wagyu transactions made. He was tempted by wagyu beef which sold for 18 Singapore dollars or the equivalent of Rp. 2 million per two kilograms.

“After confirming the order, the victims will be directed to make payments to the seller’s account via PayNow. Victims (like me) will not realize until finally they will never get an order that has been paid handsomely,” said Singh.

After receiving many detailed reports, the police admitted that they had immediately started an investigation. All the transaction records of the victims were collected which, when added together, reached a total of 20,000 Singapore dollars or the equivalent of Rp. 228 million.

To prevent this fraud from taking more victims, there are three things that the police have noted to always pay attention to when shopping online. Starting from application security features, being careful when making payments to immediately reporting if something happens fraud.
