Manama: Two expatriate women were sentenced to 10 years in prison for locking a young woman in a room and forcing her to engage in prostitution. The sentence was handed down by the Bahrain High Criminal Court the other day. According to the court verdict, they are guilty of human trafficking, detaining the girl and inciting prostitution.
Two young women aged 25 and 26 were convicted in the case. The suspects brought a 24-year-old woman to Bahrain from their home country. They were brought in because they were offered a job in a massage center. But immediately after arriving in Bahrain, he was locked in a hotel room in Manama. It was here that prostitution was forced. When the woman refused, she was asked to pay 1800 dinars to be released from detention. All these incidents happened last December.
The accused made the young woman believe that they had the support of some police officers and that they would not take any action even if she filed a complaint as they had paid the police. But the woman secretly reported the matter to her country’s embassy officials. According to information received from the embassy, the two women were caught in a raid conducted by the Bahraini police. The police released the woman who was kept in custody. The court ruled that there was sufficient evidence against the accused. The verdict also ordered the two accused to be deported from Bahrain after serving their 10-year jail terms.
