Former Regent of Sidoarjo Allegedly Received Rp. 15 Billion Gratification: Precious Metals-Luxury Watches

KPK re-named former Sidoarjo Regent Saiful Ilah as a suspect in the corruption case. Saiful Ilah has now been named a graft suspect with a value of Rp. 15 billion.

“The amount of gratuity received was around Rp. 15 billion and the investigation team is still investigating,” said KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata at a press conference at the KPK building, Jalan Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday (7/3/2023).

Saiful Ilah is the Regent of Sidoarjo for the 2010-2015 period and will continue for the 2016-2021 period. Alex said the parties that gave gratification to Saiful consisted of private parties to BUMD directors.

“Parties that provide gratuities include private parties including civil servants in the Sidoarjo Regency Government and BUMD Directors,” said Alex.

According to Alex, the form of gratification that Alex received was also in the form of luxury goods. Those items range from precious metals to luxury watches.

“For the form of goods received by IS, among others, in the form of precious metals weighing IDR 50 grams, sharing luxury watches with international brands, various kinds of luxury bags with international brands and various types of goods. cellphone luxury with a famous brand,” said Alex.

For his actions, Saiful Ilah was charged with Article 12B of RI Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption as amended by RI Law Number 20 of 2001. He is currently being held at the KPK Detention Center.

“For the purposes of investigation, the investigation team detained the suspect SI for the first 20 days starting from March 7 2023 to March 26 2023 at the KPK Detention Center,” said Alex.

Saiful Ilah was previously named a suspect in bribery related to several infrastructure projects at the PUPR Office of Sidoarjo Regency. He was charged with Article 11 of Law No. 31 of 1999, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.

Saiful Ilah was then sentenced to 3 years in prison. Saiful was then released from the Class I prison in Surabaya. Together with his colleagues, Sangaji Sanajihitu and Yudhi Tetrahastoto, the three of them have been free since January 7, 2022.
