Enarotali, Jubi TV– The Paniai District Health Office continues to increase the coverage of MR (Measles Rubella) immunization through recommendations for the implementation of Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) as an effort to prevent transmission of measles.
According to Acting Head of the Paniai District Health Office, dr. Laswan Siallagan, told Jubi in his office, Monday (6/3/2023), said that his party was carrying out various efforts to prevent and control measles regularly and consistently. One of the concrete evidences is deploying a medical team in collaboration with puskesmas officers throughout Paniai District.
“From the 30 puskesmas in Paniai where we carried out an outbreak response immunization (ORI) in each work area, we have immunized 10,622 children aged 9 months to 59 months and under. Except for six puskesmas, because the coverage area is quite far,” said dr. Laswan Siallagan.
Of that number, said Laswan, there were actually 15,121 children according to the data obtained from the team.
“We have a total of around 67 percent. We want 100 percent but PR [pekerjaan rumah] we [Dinas Kesehatan] still 33 percent. In the future there are still around 5,000 children that we still have to immunize,” he said.
Of the 30 puskesmas, he continued, six had not reported, namely the Youtadi, Nawipauwo, Baya Biru, Yagai, Siriwo, and Duma-Dama health centers.
“Regarding this, we need support from the local government regarding transportation while we follow developments. For Bogobaida, even though it was far enough to reach it, it was carried out quickly, in fact, the measles immunization coverage was quite high, 87.3 percent of the 240 children they targeted, they had 215 children. It’s amazing and thank you very much Head of the Bogobaida Health Center,” he said.
In addition to providing measles immunization, he admitted, his party also provided vitamin A and provided additional food to anticipate malnutrition and malnutrition in children.
“Because children will have complications if they are malnourished. So we continue to work hard so that all children from 9 months to 59 months can get measles immunization coverage,” he said.
His party will check every child from house to house to break the chain of death in the younger generation.
“What is still lacking, we will do house to house,” he said.
“Measles immunization coverage has been carried out for the last three weeks,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to his colleagues at the puskesmas because it could be carried out well because of teamwork.
“Of course we can’t do it ourselves. This is evidence of the fast action of the Health Service and the health centers,” he said.
Laswan added, this incident was a lesson that all parties, especially parents, immunizing children is an obligation.
“Don’t do it because of the outbreak that people are immunizing in droves, after that they don’t. Do not be like that. Whether there is an outbreak or not, immunization must be routine, health promotion must be carried out, giving vitamin A twice a year, providing additional food, so that things we don’t want happen again,” he said.
Paniai Regency measles handling coordinator, Yohanes Kayame, said that many people remained silent, so they searched for children at each health service.
“That’s what we can do quickly. We suggest to the team that if there are mild complications, each puskesmas can handle them when administering measles immunization. But if there are severe complications, they can be referred to the Paniai hospital in Madi. But thankfully everything is safe,” Kayame said.
Even though they were referred to the Paniai Hospital, the Health Service will send another team to find out in the field, especially house to house. “We need support from the local government to suppress suspected measles cases,” he said.
He emphasized that even though Paniai suppressed suspected measles cases, several neighboring districts did not do this, which was an obstacle for all parties.
