Poles in 2023 will be among the favorites for success in Indian Wells! The defender of the title from a year ago is Iga Świątek. 12 months ago, she convincingly defeated Maria Sakkari in the final and delighted fans from around the world. Fans will also be waiting for the performance of Magda Linette, who gave them a lot of joy at the beginning of the season at the Australian Open.
In the men’s ladder we will see Hubert Hurkacz. In 2022, he reached the fourth round, where he lost to Andrei Rublev. This time, however, the Wrocław native is counting on a much better result. He will again be a seed in the tournament – this honor was also earned by Świątek and Linette.

“Polish match” in Indian Wells? It’s possible!
Iga Świątek was the first to meet her potential rivals in the second round. As a seeded player, a Polish player does not have to start the tournament from the very beginning of the competition in the main bracket. Her opponent will be the better of the pair Claire Liu – Alison Van Uytvanck. The ladies will face each other in the first round of the tournament.
Magda Linette also received a bye in the first round. The Poznańian has had a great performance at the Australian Open, where she reached the semi-finals. This meant a huge jump in the rankings, thanks to which she will be seeded No. 20 at Indian Wells. She will start her struggles in the second round, where she will face the winner of the match Danka Kovinić – Emma Raducanu. Interestingly, Świątek and Linette can run into each other in the fourth round.
Hubert Hurkacz does not know his potential opponent in the second round yet. The highest ranked Pole in the ATP ranking will face one of the winners of the qualification. These, however, will end only on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Polish time, and only then should the inhabitant of Wrocław find out with whom he will play his first match on the Indian Wells courts.
The first matches of Poles in Indian Wells 2023:
