Golden Coast. At the JDA Business club, there are no “sponsors for women”

The business club which supports, among other things, the elite women’s handball team of Dijon has long understood that in sport, the question of gender parity no longer arises. Everyone is welcome here, as long as they have “the love of the jersey”.

For Stéphane Bescond, there “is no subject”. “Because when we ask the question of whether we support more men or women, we are the ones who pose the problem. While there is none, ”he lets go, frankly.

With his disruptive speech, the brand new president of the JDA Business club breaks the codes.

“You know in sport, I think we don’t care if we’re white, black, or Arab. To be a man or a woman; what drives us, connects us, are the values of humanism and universalism. Well, it’s the same for the members of our business club: we are interested first in who you are, before being interested in what you represent, ”continues our interlocutor.

“Nobody prefers to sponsor the men of basketball”

He, in this case, is an entrepreneur from Dijon, a former basketball player, appointed two weeks ago to head the JDA business club, which brings together some of the sponsors of the women’s handball team 1 – but also those of the pro men’s basketball team. “About 90 of the 250 JDA partners have joined the business club. All are either bosses, directors or heads of sections… Something that I think is impossible to see elsewhere: parity is strictly respected here, ”assures the president. It is therefore these women, and these men, passionate about sport and challenges who sponsor the club, with tens of thousands of euros: in return, the name of their company is displayed on the outfits, or on the edges ground. “And none of them prefer to sponsor men in basketball, and there are no sponsors just for women in JDA Handball either. You just have to commit and share the same vision, and wear the same jersey, ”he says.

Wearing the same jersey but also having the same business sense, since that is also the role of the JDA Business club: bringing together entrepreneurs who can potentially become working partners. “We meet several times a month, at matches, but also at private parties. We exchange our projects and often we are advised to go see so and so, ”slips the president.

“We are also there to help professional players to retrain after their career. As we know, elite sport ends very early; it is often very difficult to bounce back. We know them, we know their strengths and often find positions that suit them in our companies”, concludes our interlocutor.
