The man convicted of the double murder in front of a discotheque “Solo” Iliyan Todorov is detained in Uzbekistan, bTV learned from its sources.
Todorov was stopped on suspicion of having a fake passport when trying to fly to Istanbul. With the assistance of the competent Bulgarian authorities, it was established that the detained person is the wanted Iliyan Todorov.
There was no sign of him for more than 12 years. The double murder in front of the Solo discotheque, which is located meters from the courthouse, took place on April 18, 2009. Then, after a knife scandal, Vasil Alexandrov and hockey player Kiril Vazharov were stabbed and died. Their friend was also attacked but survived.
Todorov surrendered two days after the death of Kiril Vazharov and Vasil Aleksandrov – on April 20, 2009, but bleached and with fingernails cut to the point of blood.
Iliyan was arrested and charged, and later brought before the Sofia City Court. However, on December 9, 2011, Judge Rumyana Chenalova and the court chaired by her acquitted him of the two murders. He goes free.
In December 2013, the Supreme Court of Cassation sentenced him to life imprisonment. However, there is no sign of Ilian. No one knows exactly when he left the country.
The prosecutor’s office announced that extradition documents are about to be sent in accordance with an agreement between Bulgaria and Uzbekistan, signed in 2004.
The Prosecutor’s Office in Uzbekistan has initiated pre-trial proceedings for a document crime committed by Todorov (using a false document), which is yet to be examined.
