Creed III raked in $58.7 million on its US debut, on 4,007 prints, the boxing franchise’s biggest debut by far: In 2015, the first spin-off of Rocky had sold 26.6 million green tickets in three days, then in 2018, its sequel had sold 35.5 million. This time, more Sylvester Stallone on the bill, it is his colt played by Michael B. Jordan who is fully the star of this sequel, and who also puts it on stage (this is the first production of the ‘actor). The reviews are good, and the expectation was there: thanks to its scores abroad, Creed III has already passed the bar of 100 million dollars in revenue.
In detail, the film recorded 38% of its American score during Imax sessions, and was a hit from the day of its release: on Friday alone, it collected 22 million dollars. Jonathan Majors, who plays Creed’s adversary, also stars inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, who had been at the top of the US rankings for a fortnight, and who fell to second place this weekend. He plays Kang, the new enemy of the Avengers, and is therefore twice at the top of the US thanks to these two projects.
However, within the MCU, this latest blockbuster is far from a hit! It won 12.4 million more this weekend in 3,825 theaters, or 186 million in the USA in three weeks, and 420 million worldwide. It will struggle to reach 500 million in overall revenue, writes Variety, while this sum is almost always exceeded by Marvel productions.
