Tokyo –
Various efforts are being tried by the Government Japan to control population decline and birthrate which has reached a critical stage. One of them is in Tokyo, the government will provide money for women who want to freeze their eggs.
“We recognize that the declining birth rate is in a critical situation. In my understanding, various factors are at play, preventing individuals from realizing their expectations of marriage, child birth and child rearing,” said Yoshihiko Isozaki, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan.
As quoted detikINET from Fox News, in a new program, the government will provide funds of around USD 2,200 per person or around Rp. 33 million with a quota of up to 300 Tokyo residents who wish to freeze their eggs, a method so that women can still get pregnant in the future.
“There are many employees who are confused about choosing between pursuing a career and determining when to get pregnant and have children,” said a representative for the Pola cosmetics company. He also welcomed the program as a good initiative.
As reported, in the past year in Japan, about twice as many people died as were born, with less than 800,000 births and around 1.58 million deaths. Japan’s own PM has vowed to double spending on children and families in a bid to rein in the decline.
The population has fallen to 124.6 million from a peak of more than 128 million in 2008, and the rate of decline is accelerating. Meanwhile, the proportion of people aged 65 and over will increase to more than 29% by 2022. Although South Korea’s fertility rate is lower, Japan’s population is declining faster.
Various attempts have been made Japan to solve this strange problem. Among them are holding mass matchmaking events, teaching dating tips to residents, and using big data to match residents according to their respective dreams.
