Asan City completed consultations with related organizations to create a pleasant urban environment and announced that it would launch a project to create a resident-friendly space under the railway near Tangjeong Station in early March.

The space under the Janghang Line railroad in the area of Tangjeong Station is a state-owned land under the jurisdiction of the National Railroad Corporation. In the meantime, complaints from residents have been reported continuously due to lack of management, such as damage to the aesthetics, habitat of pests and harmful animals, and poor drainage.

Accordingly, the city started discussions with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and the National Railroad Authority in earnest from 2021, and the National Railroad Authority agreed to the management agency, LH created a resident-friendly space, and Asan City decided to carry out maintenance after transferring management. Agreed and got started.

A total project cost of KRW 500 million will be invested, and it is planned to complete the creation of walking trails and rest areas for pedestrians, planting of trees and installation of streetlights, and maintenance of drainage channels to improve the landscape by early May.

A city official said, “We will create facilities for residents’ convenience, such as walking and resting areas, in the lower space of the railroad and strive to be reborn as a space where citizens can enjoy a safe and pleasant urban environment.”
