The Augsburg Panthers said goodbye in their last DEL game (for the time being). Supported by around 600 fans, they showed a decent game in Frankfurt, but still lost 3:4. Now the big time of shaking and shivering begins.
The Augsburg Panthers and their fans wanted to say goodbye to this disappointing season with decency. Around 600 people who came to the battlefield accompanied the AEV to Frankfurt in a bus convoy and created a great atmosphere. Even the early deficit by Schwartz (6th) shouldn’t change that. Shortly before the first break, Kuffner was able to equalize the cheering of the fans to make it 1-1.
The Panthers should play freely as a result, the 2-1 lead through a powerplay goal by Wännström was certainly not undeserved (35th). However, this was not enough for a half-time lead, because of all people the former Augsburg player Brett Breitkreuz was able to use it in a majority game (38th).
The lions put enormous pressure on the goal of AEV goalkeeper Markus Keller in the last third. With a win, the Hessians could make it into the playoffs on their own. After Vandane scored for the newly promoted team with six minutes left, it seemed as if they weren’t taking part. However, Augsburg reported back seconds later in the person of Samuel Soramies. It should remain at this 3:3 until the end of regular time. Overtime had to decide this last main round game. 22 seconds before the end of the additional shift, Scarlett was able to use the space to make it 4:3 after a penalty against Panther attacker Kuffner.
Frankfurt moved into the playoffs against Düsseldorf, for the Swabians the time of trembling and shivering begins. If Dresden, Kassel or Krefeld secure the title in the lower house, the elevator takes the DEL founding member to the DEL2. Since Krefeld and Dresden meet in the playoff quarter-finals, “only” two out of three teams have a chance of qualifying. The good performance on the Main could then have been the last for a long time, but “Today isn’t every day, we’ll be back, no question!”, as read on a banner from the fans.
