Changjiang Wenquan, deputy director of the Animal Husbandry Department of the Council of Agriculture, pointed out that the average increase of 0.3 yuan per egg, “should not have a huge impact on people’s livelihood.”
The CEO of the Egg Price Committee said that due to the shortage of egg sources in the production area, the gap continued, and the wholesale price of eggs and the price of the production area both rose by three yuan this week.
Jiang Wenquan pointed out that the Egg Merchants Association told the Council of Agriculture that due to the dynamic supply and demand, the quantity on the supply side is still insufficient, the demand has also increased significantly, and there are frequent egg transfers among the same industry. This is done in order to reflect the market conditions.
Jiang Wenquan believes that the price of an egg is less than five yuan, equivalent to an increase of 0.3 yuan per egg, “should not have a huge impact on people’s livelihood.”
Jiang Wenquan pointed out that it is estimated that the next batch of imported eggs will arrive in Taiwan this week, and they are also from Australia. The volume of eggs transported by air should be 360,000 eggs. The actual number will be adjusted according to the situation, which should help in stable supply and demand.
Due to factors such as laying hens moulting, feed price increases, and bird flu, the price of egg production land rose from 36.5 yuan per catty in March to 42.5 yuan in July last year, and the wholesale price rose to 50 at the same time. Two yuan, a new high price in recent years; in October, it fell back to two yuan, maintaining 40.5 yuan, and the wholesale price dropped to 50 yuan.
In February this year, egg merchants and egg farmers exchanged opinions on production, sales and market conditions, and reached a consensus that the price increase should reflect the cost. In mid-February, the price of the production area was raised by 2 yuan to 42.5 yuan, and the wholesale price was 52 yuan. The price increase this week was announced for the second time in less than a month.
