Macron and Scholz compete in populism in the Armenian direction – EADaily – Armenian News. Armenia. What is happening in Armenia now? Armenian news 05.03.2023. Armenia news. News. Armenia today.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Germany, unexpected activation (on the Transcaucasian direction – Ed.) Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his “populist statements acceptable to Armenians” may seem surprising only at first glance. About this in the article under the heading “Remove Russia from the South Caucasus. The true meaning of the words of the German Chancellor,” writes the Armenian online edition 1or.am. The material analyzes “the recently increasing influence of Germany in the Transcaucasus and, in particular, Armenia.”

Germany is unequivocally included in the big global game, and this circumstance may contain new threats for Armenia. Many, of course, may be surprised by Pashinyan’s current visit. Moreover, he already visited Germany exactly a week ago – to participate in the Munich Security Conference.

In Europe, there is a stereotype that the main curator of Armenia and Pashinyan personally is France, headed by the President Emmanuel Macron, which quite skillfully conducts political processes. He uses the image of a “friend of Armenia”, through statements and manipulations, in words he allegedly supports Armenia, but in practice he resolves issues with Turkey and Azerbaijan, keeps Armenia under control economically and politically. It has come to the point that France is considered a more serious friend in Armenia than Russia and even Iran.

Meanwhile, Germany is significantly increasing its influence in the South Caucasus region. This is noticeable even in the composition of the EU observers (a civilian mission of 100 observers deployed along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border for a period of two years. — Ord.). Germany has the largest number of observers (15 – Ord.), and the overall leadership of the mission is carried out by a German policeman.

In fact, Germany is trying to replace France, especially as a result of Emmanuel Macron’s clearly pro-Armenian statements, after which the Azerbaijani authorities accused Paris of bias, refusing to continue negotiations (on a peace treaty with Armenia – Ord.) through the mediation of the French President. It is also possible that the US asked Germany to take on a new role after France crossed red lines.

Notable in all this is that Chancellor Olaf Scholz has twice stressed the need for self-determination for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. In the case when even the current Prime Minister of Armenia did not mention this right.

This indicates that Germany is trying to set its own bar, with texts that are pleasant to the ears of Armenians and, possibly, with positions clarified in advance with Nikol Pashinyan. The long-term goal of Germany, as well as the entire collective West, of course, is to oust Russia from the region. And in order to change the foreign policy vector of Armenia, to manipulate the Armenian society, of course, it is necessary to unleash a flurry of pro-Armenian statements, manipulate and remove the country from Russia. We recognize that the West is doing it very skillfully,” — writes 1or.am.
