Coronation of King Charles: Holy Ointment from Jerusalem

LONDON – The consecration of the holy ointment to be used at the coronation of Britain’s King Charles took place at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. The ointment will be symbolically applied to the 74-year-old monarch’s head, chest and hands in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6. He would be known as Charles III. The king’s wife Camilla will also be anointed and declared queen.

This ointment was prepared near Bethlehem with oil collected from the olive groves of the 2 monasteries on the Mount of Olives, where King Charles’ grandmother, Princess Alice of Greece, was buried and added spices. Theophilos III Patriarch of Jerusalem and Anglican Archbishop Rev. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who will officiate at the coronation ceremony, said the consecration ceremony was performed by Hossam Navum.
