“We see that in children from 3 to 5 years of age the fourth dose does not exceed 3%, these are very alarming figures. And if we look at the population at risk, we see that the coverage does not exceed 25%. Older adults over 80 years do not exceed 43%; we have more than half of adults over the age of 80 without this bivalent vaccine“Said the former undersecretary in conversation with Radio Cooperativa.
According to Daza, “At least 200 days are needed, if we double today’s vaccination rate, to be able to achieve vaccination coverage in those over 80 years of age.”
Given this, the former undersecretary stressed the importance of an intense vaccination campaign, and criticized the work carried out by officials of the Ministry of Health: “The work of the Undersecretary of Public Health is to communicate and educate, and here there has not been adequate risk communication and education.”
“What we have seen is worrying because we know that after about six months vaccines begin to lose their effectiveness and people begin to lose their immunity. Every day we continue to have a significant number of cases, of deaths, and we cannot normalize that, ”he added.
Daza also referred to the so-called crisis of the isapres, noting that: “The minister is absolutely clear that she cannot put the insolvency of the private sector at risk, because that can produce a systemic crisis”.
“There is no doubt that in parallel, in the short or medium term, it is necessary to advance in a health reform both in the private and public sectors; Two projects have been presented and unfortunately neither has advanced”, he added.
“Therefore, we hope that, now that all the actors are clear about the problem, progress can be made towards a health system that is more equitable, that takes care that people do not fall into financial risk and has an impact on the quality of health of people,” he concluded.
