Jakarta –
Isu three-term president not to cause public commotion in a single-party country, People’s Republic of China (RRC). Presiden China Xi Jinping immediately confirmed as president three terms.
As reported by The Guardian and Chanel News Asia, China will hold an annual session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) on Saturday (4/3). At the event, Xi Jinping is expected to be confirmed as President of China for three terms.
For this year’s NPC assembly, Xi is reportedly preparing a major overhaul of government and party institutions.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), on Tuesday (28/2), followed changes of ‘broad significance’ that are expected to include the reorganization of the bodies charged with regulating the finance and technology sectors, as well as state security. All changes will have one goal, which is to strengthen party control.
In his current power, Xi has become China’s most influential leader since the late Mao Zedong — the founder of the People’s Republic of China, who ruled for nearly three decades.
At the Chinese Communist Party congress in October last year, Xi was appointed general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and head of the military commission for a third term, after abolishing the two-term term limit in 2018, paving the way for him to rule for life.
At this year’s NPC meeting, Xi’s power will be further strengthened by his appointment as President of China for a third term.
The date of Xi’s inauguration as Chinese President for a third term is not clear. But the annual NPC assembly usually lasts from one week to two consecutive weeks.
